After rhinoplasty surgery, the nose is particularly vulnerable. The tissues, bones, and cartilage are in a delicate state as they adjust to their new shape. Resting glasses directly on your nose too soon can interfere with this process, potentially shifting the bones or causing indentations in the soft tissue. Even lightweight glasses place direct downward pressure on the nasal bridge, which may cause indentations, shift the alignment of nasal bones, or delay the cosmetic outcome.
Your nose enters a vulnerable healing stage once the splint is removed (usually after 7-10 days). For the next 4-6 weeks (and sometimes longer), avoid placing glasses or sunglasses directly on your nose. Healing times may vary based on the complexity of the procedure, your unique anatomy, and the surgical technique used. For example, those undergoing piezo ultrasonic rhinoplasty with Dr. Zarrabi may experience less trauma and swelling, but caution is still necessary.
If you must wear glasses, use lightweight frames, add extra padding to the nose pads, or rest glasses on your cheeks if possible. Work with your optician to adjust your frames so they minimize pressure on your healing nose. Once fully healed, you may wish to select glasses with adjustable nose pads or comfortable materials (such as lightweight plastic) to avoid ongoing pressure on your nose.
If you are considering undergoing rhinoplasty, consult Dr. Zarrabi to receive excellent care.
