WHAT IS RHINOPLASTY FOR WIDE NOSE? Banner

What Is Rhinoplasty for Wide Nose?

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery that aims to reshape the nose. For patients with
a wide nose, this procedure narrows the contours of the nasal bridge to make it appear more proportionate with the rest of the face. During rhinoplasty, an incision is made to access the bones and cartilage, which are then sculpted or removed
to create the desired nose shape. On average, this surgery takes 1-2 hours
to complete. Rhinoplasty results are permanent, although the nose can
continue to subtly change shape with age.

Dr. Zarrabi uses three major techniques during this surgery:

Osteotomy (Bone Reshaping)

The nasal bones are carefully fractured and repositioned to narrow the bridge of the nose. This helps to reduce visible width.

Cartilage Reshaping

The cartilages are surgically reshaped or reduced in size to decrease the nostril flare and width of the nasal tip. This technique narrows the nose profile.

Alar Base Reduction

A wedge of tissue is removed from each nostril base to decrease its width. The nostrils are narrowed by bringing the alar bases closer together.

OUR PIEZO ULTRASONIC TECHNOLOGY Banner

Our Piezo Ultrasonic Technology

Piezo ultrasonic device includes a special wand that emits soundwave vibrations to carefully sculpt the nasal bones and cartilage into the desired shape. This technology allows Dr. Zarrabi to make tiny fractures and modify the delicate nasal structures. It can help to achieve the best cosmetic results without damaging soft tissues like a traditional surgical instrument might. Our ultrasonic piezo technique reduces swelling and trauma, so the recovery time is usually faster.

Consultation & Preparation
for a Nose Job

The process begins with a thorough consultation between the patient
and Dr. Zarrabi to discuss the goals and expectations for the operation.
During this meeting, the doctor evaluates nasal anatomy (upper nasal bones
and other structures) to develop a surgical plan. He also reviews the patient’s medical history and current medications to see if they are a good candidate.

Additional aspects of preparation may involve obtaining preoperative lab tests
or medical clearances. The patient is instructed to stop certain medications that increase bleeding risk. They may also be asked to cease smoking for a month before and after surgery because it might complicate healing. Some additional considerations include arranging 2 weeks off work for recovery and organizing care assistance during the initial period. Following the consultation and all preparations, we set a date to conduct the surgical procedure.

Wide Nose Rhinoplasty Procedure

Anesthesia Anesthesia
Wide nose surgery is performed under general anesthesia so the patient is fully asleep and feels no pain. We deliver medication through an intravenous line to induce total unconsciousness before the procedure begins.
Dr. Zarrabi makes small incisions either inside the nostrils or at the base of the nose between the nostrils to access the underlying cartilage and bone. These openings allow the surgeon to change nasal structures.

Dr. Zarrabi sculpts and narrows the nasal bones and cartilage using a piezo ultrasonic device that allows for precise and safe tissue removal. He may also trim, reshape, or reposition specific cartilage pieces in areas causing excess width. For example, alar base reduction can remove flared nostrils, while spreader grafts support the internal nasal valve and facilitate proper breathing. The piezo ultrasonic method enables detailed sculpting to create the desired contours.

Once the rhinoplasty is complete, the surgeon closes all incisions using absorbable sutures. External incisions heal rapidly and are almost invisible once healed. With his extensive experience, Dr. Zarrabi uses the best techniques to minimize scarring.
RECOVERY AFTER RHINOPLASTY FOR WIDE NOSE Banner

Recovery After Rhinoplasty
for Wide Nose

Early Recovery (1-2 weeks)
The nose will be swollen and bruised in the first 1-2 weeks after surgery. Pain is usually mild and managed with medication. Patients must wear a splint for 1 week to protect the nose and ensure proper recovery. Sleeping upright and avoiding strenuous activity are also important.
Early Recovery (1-2 weeks)
Swelling and bruising continue to improve during weeks 2-6. Splints and casts are removed to allow the nose to slowly regain normal contours. Most patients return to work within 14 days but should avoid contact sports or strenuous activity for 2 months to prevent injury while healing. Numbness in parts of the nose, teeth, or upper lip may persist during this period.
Long-term Recovery (2-12 months)
Within 1 year after surgery, the swelling fully resolves, and the nose reaches its final shape. Patients usually feel that their skin sensitivity returns and numbness disappears. Scars from incisions also fade significantly. After full recovery, patients see dramatic improvements in their nasal appearance.

Candidates for Wide Nose Rhinoplasty

Wide noses may be caused by many different factors, such as genetics, trauma, and age. Therefore, many types of patients can benefit from nose jobs. Here are the most common characteristics of candidates:
WIDE NASAL BRIDGE Banner

Wide Nasal Bridge

People with naturally wide nasal bridges are often good candidates for rhinoplasty. The nasal bones can be carefully fractured and repositioned to reduce width. This procedure helps to achieve better facial proportions and balance.
WIDE NOSTRILS Banner

Wide Nostrils

Wide nostrils are a common concern for patients considering rhinoplasty. This problem can be resolved with alar base reduction – removing small wedges of tissue from the nostril sides. Using this technique, Dr. Zarrabi makes the nose more refined and proportionate.
BULBOUS NOSE Banner

Bulbous Nose

A bulbous nasal tip can create a perception that the nose is wider than it should be. Therefore, patients with this condition often undergo
a bulbous nose job. Techniques like tip defatting, cartilage modification, and refinement of the nasal tip help to create a more defined, elegant tip contour.
ALL TYPES OF NASAL SKIN Banner

All Types of Nasal Skin

In general, thin skin helps to achieve better results
and makes the recovery process easier. However, people with thick nasal skin are also good candidates for rhinoplasty. While thick skin can present surgical challenges, techniques like SMAS manipulation help
to address this issue. After a thorough pre-operative assessment, Dr. Zarrabi will demonstrate the potential outcomes using our innovative 3D imaging technology.

Benefits of Nose Job

ENHANCED FACIAL BALANCE Banner

Enhanced Facial Balance

After rhinoplasty, the nose becomes more proportionate to other facial features.
This procedure can make a big difference in how the person looks and feels.
INCREASED CONFIDENCE Banner

Increased Confidence

For many patients, reducing the width of the nose may lead to greater confidence
and self-esteem. People start feeling more comfortable and attractive. This often leads to positive changes in personal and professional life.
IMPROVED BREATHING Banner

Improved Breathing (Optional)

Rhinoplasty can improve breathing by reshaping the nose and opening nasal
passages. During surgery, the septum may be straightened and internal valves widened to allow for better airflow. After rhinoplasty, patients often report reduced nasal congestion and improved ability to breathe through the nose
